Atlanta Hotel Rates Skyrocket for NCCA Final Four, Survey Shows
April 2, 2013Basketball fanatics who intend to get their NCAA Men's Final Four tournament game on in person this weekend in Atlanta better arm themselves for a full court press on their bank accounts. AtlantaHotels.org has just released a new survey that reveals they’ll be contending with two serious guards simultaneously. In addition to being hit with expensive ticket prices, costly area hotel prices will also be breathing down their necks.
The good news for last-minute planners is that a dozen hotels in downtown or midtown Atlanta are still posting vacancies for the tournament timeframe of April 6–9. The bad news is that staying in these rooms will cost them an average of 167% more than it normally would. And there’s a good chance they’ll pay as much as three times the usual rate at some of these accommodations.
To snag even the least costly available room in downtown or midtown Atlanta, basketball fans will currently have to shell out approximately $300 per night. The Buckhead section of Atlanta's uptown district is cutting them a bit of slack with rooms still available for under $200 nightly, though. Out-of-town Final Four attendees who are traveling to the tournament on a limited budget should prepare for a bit of a trek to the game venue. The northern Atlanta suburbs of Marietta and Sandy Springs, located about 15 miles from the downtown area, are still offering rooms for less than $100 per night.
The following table shows available hotels in downtown or midtown Atlanta for the NCAA Final Four period spanning April 6–9. Regular rates reflect the cost of staying in the same room one week later (April 13–16).
